Our Tips for Finding Your Creativity

Published on 20 May 2019 - All - 10 minute read

We know you may not have a lot of time spare in the day, however, 10 minutes or so looking on Instagram or Dribbble at creative accounts can help awaken your imagination and creativity. Creativity is contagious so using inspiration from others and working together as a team can really help push your design ideas to the next level.

Never stop learning
Some people may think they know enough to get by but that is never the case. Design trends and the digital world is constantly changing which means that keeping up to date with the latest technology and design inspiration will keep your work looking fresh and up to date.  Locking out a portion of our day to concentrate on learning keeps us inspired, creative and also keeps our mind active so we don’t lose interest or focus.

Think wrong
It’s beneficial to ignore the instant connections the brain makes and hash out many ideas before executing. It’s about challenging the status quo and embarking on a unique journey with an unknown destination. Another thing to remember is to never think that your idea isn’t good enough. Even if you think your idea is going to be laughed at, mention it! A great idea could be formed out of group suggestions and your idea may not be as silly as you thought it was! Albert Einstein once said, “Creativity is contagious, pass it on”. With this in mind, collaborating with your team, working with them to come up with some ideas for a project or simply just asking them for a few ideas can help you get inspiration.

Keep at it!
Some days, you feel like all the ideas will flow to your mind’s door, yet on other days, you feel like you want to hit your head against a brick wall or throw your computer out the window while you cry about quitting. Learn that this is ok and that just taking a small break can help change your whole mindset. Coming back to a project with a fresh mind can bring a whole new level of creativity and totally change your mindset so make sure you don’t give up!

Stick to a routine
You might underestimate the importance of a routine; however, I have come to find that I am most productive in the mornings. So, therefore, getting up, ready and out the house allows me to get things done. If you are used to a routine, you are more likely to follow through with a task every day. You may find getting up early helps you to freshen up and get ready for the day or maybe just taking it easy is best for you as you prefer a stress free environment to get your creative juices flowing. Even if your routine isn’t work based, a set routine could still help your daily life and therefore allowing you to be more creative because you will become more organised and less stressed. For example, taking the dog 🐕 for a walk; might seem like a boring repetitive task, however by changing your mindset, it can allow you to use inspiration from the world around you for both leisure and work purposes. Grabbing inspiration from the world around us can really help our design as most things were inspired by mother nature first so can help your design to look aesthetically pleasing.

Learn a new skill or pick up a new hobby
This provides the brain with something new to focus on and allows you to push your boundaries of what you think you are capable of and to focus in innovative ways. Practise makes perfect!

Read a book
Not everyone is a loveable book worm, we get that. However, giving yourself time away from your screen and placing your hands on a good book, might give your mind that break it really needs. Whether that be a fictional piece, a magazine or simply a picture book to get you inspired, get your eyes away from that screen!

Don’t sit and wait around for inspiration to come to you, do whatever it takes to spark that creativity. Exercise your mind with whatever you can! Keep your brain on its toes and stop yourself from feeling that of a deflated balloon. It’s all about being inspired. 🧠✨💡
